100 Years of Coconuts is the heritage arm of Cambridge United supporters’ trust CFU.
It was launched, with the help of a Heritage Lottery Fund grant, as a virtual museum in 2012, as part of the celebrations marking the club’s centenary.
In subsequent years Coconuts has evolved to encompass activities including research into the club’s history, the staging of events including Q&As with former players, the collection of oral history, the sale of merchandise and maintaining an active presence on social media.
In 2015, with the aid of a further grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund, Coconuts set about a two-year project aimed at opening a small museum on Cambridge United’s history (www.100yearsofcoconuts.co.uk/the-story-of-the-us.html), inaugurating the club’s Hall of Fame and launching an association for former players (link www.cufpa.org.uk).
Having achieved these objectives, in the second year of the project Coconuts is focusing on spreading the word about Cambridge United, its story and its people via pop-up displays at museums and community events and work with community groups and schools.
